Town of Newstead debates water projects, noise ordinance

The debate over the Town of Newstead’s water projects and local noise ordinance continued at Monday’s Town Hall meeting.

The first issue addressed was the noise ordinance. Citizens remarked that the issue had been dragged out for too long and still remains unresolved. The board maintained that the ordinance was not to be discussed at Monday’s meeting. Board members said they were waiting for an additional conference with the Braun’s Bar owner.

Still, attendees persisted with the issue, and Town Supervisor David Cummings reiterated that the public would be notified of the coming vote, which is expected in late April.

The water projects conversation raged at the meeting as well. Newstead citizens protested against the service, which they said benefitted only a few residents and specifically one commercial entity, Niagara Label.

Also discussed at the meeting was Councilman Justin Rooney’s expected absence for the month of April due to medical procedures.
