Three arrested in Wyoming county DWI stop

WARSAW – Three men were arrested by Wyoming County Sheriff’s deputies during a traffic stop on Route 19a in the Town of Genesee Falls about 12:10 a.m. Sunday.

Deputies charged the driver Leon J. Nendza, 58, of Fillmore, with drunk driving, driving without a license and driving an uninspected and uninsured car whose license plates had been illegally switched.

Nendza was charged with aggravated DWI, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, having an unregistered vehicle, and uninsured vehicle, switching license plates and failing to keep right on the road. After an appearance Sunday morning in Genesee Falls Town Court he was released to a third party for further proceedings in several weeks.

One of his passengers, Donald J. Heckathorn, 50, of Java, allegedly tried to interfere with the police work. Heckathorn was charged with obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. He was released without bail pending further proceedings in Genesee Falls Town Court in several weeks.

Also during the roadside stop Nendza’s other passenger, Michael L. Davis, 55, of Pike, was found to be the owner of the vehicle Nendza was driving. Davis was charged with permitting an unlicensed person to drive his vehicle. He also faces Genesee Falls Town Court proceedings in several weeks.
