Film, talk aimed at helping parents of children in failing schools

In an ongoing effort to publicize the ability for Buffalo Public Schools parents to transfer children out of low-performing schools and into schools in good standing with the state, a coalition of organizations will host a second showing of the movie “We The Parents” Thursday evening at the Market Arcade Film and Art Center.

The movie will be preceded by comments from Shirley Ford, the national director of African American Affairs and Community Engagement for Parent Revolution, at 6:30 p.m. District Parent Coordinating Council President Samuel Radford III will also speak.

“We The Parents” is a film that documents the efforts of parents in Compton, Calif. to turn around their failing public schools. Ford appears prominently in the film with representatives from Parent Revolution. She will talk about how the work of the national Parent Revolution group could be implemented in Buffalo.

The event is being sponsored by the DPCC and BuffaloReformED.

Parents interested in making transfer requests must contact the district’s Central Registration Office by April 30.
