Derby man tries to get out of trooper car after DWI arrest

A 27-year-old Derby man was charged with trying to flee from a New York State Police vehicle after he was arrested for drunken driving in the southbound lane of the Niagara Thruway near downtown Buffalo about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Alex C. Vogel was facing driving while intoxicated charges after he was pulled over after allegedly driving erratically. After being placed in the trooper’s vehicle, Vogel allegedly unbuckled his seat belt and scuffled with a trooper, only to be quickly subdued. In addition to the DWI charge he was booked on charges of obstructing governmental administration, refusal to take a breath tests, failing to use 4-way flashers when needed, driving on the shoulder of the road, making unsafe lane changes and having illegal window tint on the Lexus he was driving. He was released to a family member and ordered to appear April 2 in Buffalo City Court.
