Lockport man to serve probation, weekends in jail for breaking toddler’s arm

LOCKPORT – A man who threw his 23-month-old daughter toward a couch while hanging onto her left arm, causing a fracture, was sentenced Friday to four months of weekends in jail, starting next weekend, and five years’ probation.

Michael J. Zinck, 24, of Robinson Road, Lockport, had pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted second-degree assault.

Deputy District Attorney Holly E. Sloma said Zinck told State Police that he heard “a loud pop” when he threw the toddler and she struck the front of the couch.

“I began to get frustrated, annoyed and overwhelmed by her behavior,” Zinck told troopers. Farkas ordered parenting classes for Zinck, who has since broken up with the victim’s mother but who has a pregnant girlfriend.

“Maybe he shouldn’t have children,” Farkas suggested.
