Roll over, Beethoven

The Classical Mystery Tour is coming to take us away – again! This leading Beatles impersonation act has shared the stage in Kleinhans Music Hall with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra before and proved to be far more than just a cover band. Tony Kishman looked almost alarmingly like Paul McCartney, and came admirably close to hitting McCartney’s high notes. Jim Owen was uncanny as John Lennon, and the crowd went wild when he walked out in that legendary white suit. Both of those guys are veterans of Beatlemania. They are the walrus! They are top of the line.

They are 10 years older now than the last time they were here, and are joined by a new George and Ringo (David John and Chris Camilleri, respectively). But there is every reason to expect the quality the audience experienced on their earlier visit. The show was nonstop entertainment, impressively varied, accurate, detailed and funny. The arrangements were good, too. There is no beating a live performance of, say, “The Long and Winding Road,” enhanced by the BPO’s strings.

The Beatles Classical Mystery Tour rolls into Kleinhans at 8 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $38-$84. For info, call 885-5000.
