Man draws one year in jail in sex case

LOCKPORT – A man who is in federal custody for violating probation on a weapons possession conviction in North Carolina was sentenced to a concurrent year in jail Wednesday for a sex-related case in Niagara Falls.

Christopher Thurston, 44, of Linwood Avenue, Niagara Falls, originally was charged with first-degree rape for an incident with a woman in the Falls on the night of June 9-10, 2012. However, that charge was dismissed Nov. 8 by State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr., and Thurston pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree strangulation and forcible touching.

Thurston already had been in the County Jail for 16 months before entering that plea.
