Interim management team named for Chautauqua County Home

DUNKIRK – Chautauqua County Executive Vincent W. Horrigan has announced the appointment of three interim management employees who will lead the Chautauqua County Home after Tim Hellwig, the home’s current administrator, leaves his post. Hellwig resigned effective Friday.

Members of the Chautauqua County Legislature will consider the sale of the county home when they meet Wednesday.

VestraCare, a downstate health care company, is offering $16 million to purchase the facility. If approved by the Legislature, the sale will require the approval of the state Department of Health before the new company assumes operations.

Andrea Snyder, a registered nurse, has been designated the acting administrator; Laura Hartinger, also a registered nurse, the acting director of nursing; and Brian Reader, supervising administrator. The appointments are effective today.

Snyder, currently working toward a master’s degree in nursing administration, has been employed at the Chautauqua County Home for 15 years.

Hartinger is a 20-year employee of the nursing home.

Since 2011, Reader has been the division director of operations/nursing home administrator for TLC Health Network’s Lake Shore Hospital in Irving, where he has been responsible for the management of all staffing and operations for the 120-bed facility.

His administrative experience in the field also includes Elderwood Healthcare at Riverwood, Grand Island; Elderwood Healthcare at Linwood, Lancaster; Canterbury Woods’ Oxford Village, Amherst; and Kaleida Health’s Waterfront Health Care Center, Buffalo.

The Chautauqua County Home, located on 10836 Temple Road in Dunkirk, is a 216-bed skilled nursing facility specializing in rehabilitation and long-term health care.
