False report of a stolen truck leads to arrest

NIAGARA FALLS – A North Tonawanda man who called Niagara Falls police to report that his pickup was carjacked Sunday night in the 2200 block of Cleveland Avenue, instead found himself charged after police learned he made the story up. A man and woman were located in the truck and told police that the North Tonawanda man took them downtown in his truck to buy narcotics.

Michael E. Hajzak, 47, of Nash Road, was charged at 8 p.m. Sunday with falsely reporting an incident and loitering.

After Hajzak told police that he had been forcibly dragged out of his truck by a man and woman, police located the truck in the 1800 block of Niagara Street. After further investigation police learned that Hajzak had been with the two earlier, picking them up at a local motel, and Hajzak gave them the vehicle as they were in the area to buy narcotics.
