Western New York juniors made a strong showing at the Eastern Tennis Association’s USTA Junior Championships at the Binghamton Tennis Center from January 17-19:
Girls Singles Finals: 12 & Under — 1st: Eileen Wang (Williamsville); 16 & Under — 2nd: Gabby Kivovich (Williamsville); 18 & Under — 1st: Carla Conway (Grand Island).
Boys Singles Finals: 14 & Under — 1st: Ross DeRose (Williamsville); 16 & Under — 1st: Harry Wang (Williamsville); 2nd: Jack McLaren (East Aurora); 18 & Under — 2nd: Anthony DeRose (Williamsville).
The Mount Mercy 5K road race has selected its honorees for 2014. Barbara Fitzgerald, Jeffrey Conrad and John Glose Jr. will be saluted at the event, which will be held on June 13.
Fitzgerald, Conrad and Glose will be honored for their contributions to Mount Mercy Academy and the South Buffalo community.
FOOTBALL: Cross Training Football is hosting its second Football Minicamp at the Buffalo Bills Healthy Zone Facility. This is a skills camp for quarterbacks/wide receivers from 10th -12th grade and linemen in eighth-12th grade. QB/WR must register as a tandem. Linemen may register as an individual. The camp will be held Feb. 3 from 7-10 p.m. The cost is $49 per camper. Staff will include local college and high school coaches. OFFICIATING: The WNY Basketball Officials Board 53 - IAABO will be conducting clinics for new candidates for the 2014-15 season. SOFTBALL: The West Seneca Magic Navy 14U team is looking for a pitcher or pitcher/infielder to complete their team for the 2014 season. Winter practices are held indoors two or three times per week. The team will play in the Niagara Frontier Girls Softball Association, and also in a minimum of five or six tournaments.
