Monroe street man faces up to 25 years for assault

A 36-year-old Monroe Street man was arrested on a first-degree assault charge about 1 a.m. for allegedly slashing and choking a Monroe Street neighbor. Jose Colon was arrested in his home where police officers reported finding the 62-inch flat screen television he had allegedly taken during an incident earlier this morning. Colon was charged with using a utility knife to slash the face and choke another Monroe Street man before stealing that victim’s flat-screen TV. Colon reportedly may face additional charges on top of the assault count that carries a possible 25-year prison term. Police also reported recovering at Colon’s house both the stolen television and the utility knife weapon allegedly used in the assault.
