Attica prisoner attacks a corrections officer

ATTICA – A correctional officer and an inmate at Attica Correctional Facility were taken for hospital treatment after a prisoner serving a sentence for murder attacked the officer Wednesday evening when the officer was preparing to enter and search the inmate’s cell, the state Department of Corrections said.

Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The inmate, Michael Head, 34, who was convicted of second-degree murder in Suffolk County, allegedly stabbed the officer several times with a pen.

Head faces felony charges for the prison attack and will be transferred to another maximum security prison after he is released from the hospital, corrections officials said.
