School Board will vote on tax collection change

LOCKPORT – The Lockport Board of Education is expected to vote tonight on doing away with the long-standing arrangement to have the City of Lockport collect school taxes.

If the board approves, taxpayers will be able to pay in person at M&T Bank branches instead of at City Hall.

The move will cancel a contract with the city that was to have cost the school district $39,000 for this fall’s tax collections.

The city’s attorney, Corporation Counsel John J. Ottaviano, said Tuesday the city had received advance notice and did not include the $39,000 among the city’s expected revenues in this year’s budget.
