Lockport Town Board vacancy may remain for a month

LOCKPORT – The Town Board may not appoint anyone to the vacant seat in its ranks until February, Town Supervisor Marc R. Smith said Monday.

The seat opened as of Dec. 31, when Councilwoman Cheryl A. Antkowiak took over the town justice seat she won in the November election.

Smith said the board may discuss a possible nominee at its next work session Jan. 22, but he said it’s possible actual selection of the new member may not occur until the Feb. 5 meeting.

Antkowiak stepped down with two years left on her term. The appointment will be good through the end of 2014, with an election to be held in November to decide who holds the council seat in 2015. A full four-year term in the post will be filled in the November 2015 election.
