Royalton sex offender pleads guilty to failure to register

LOCKPORT – A Level 1 sex offender from Royalton admitted Thursday in Niagara County Court that he violated the Sex Offender Registration Act in February by failing to inform state officials of an Internet account he opened.

Michael W. Lanham, 24, of Akron Road, faces up to four years in state prison for that, along with another four years for violating the terms of probation on a 2010 Genesee County conviction for third-degree rape.

Niagara County Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth R. Donatello recommended concurrent sentencing on the two cases, but County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas refused to commit herself. “It doesn’t look good,” the judge told Lanham, who, according to Farkas, had been kicked out of a sex offender counseling program for continually surfing the Internet for pornography. Lanham is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail to await sentencing Jan. 13.
