Keith McShea’s Power 10; The best of the fall

1. Clarence girls swimming. You know you’re first in the Power 10 when you dominate a league championship and it hardly makes a wave. Red Devils set two pool records as it hosted the ECIC AA meet, winning all three relays and five of the eight individual races.

2. Undefeated football teams. Jamestown (AA), Sweet Home (A), Alden (B), Cleveland Hill (C), Fredonia (C) and Randolph (D) stayed perfect as the playoffs began. One win from The Ralph.

3. St. Mary’s girls volleyball. beat Eden last week in four games, which included Eden taking a 35-33 game. Lancers concluded regular season 19-1. Monsignor Martin final Friday at 6:30.

4. Sweet Home cross country. At ECICs, second-place finishes by both the boys (to Clarence) and girls (to East Aurora) made for the best program balance. The girls took over the No. 1 spot in the Western New York large school poll.

5. Hamburg boys volleyball. Class B’s top seed remains Western New York’s unanimous No. 1.

6. Clarence cross country. Girls’ ECIC third-place finish (defending champion Marissa Saenger sat out the event due to injury) did not affect Red Devils standing in state Class A poll, where girls are ninth and boys are 12th.

7. East Aurora cross country. Girls won ECICs and are No. 1 in the state in Class B and boys were third; both No. 1 small schools in Western New York.

8. St. Joe’s and Canisius football. We’re grouping them together even though they probably can’t stand it. Last year more than 6,000 were at St. Joe’s in a rainstorm. Get to Stransky early.

9. Canisius and St. Joe’s volleyball. We did it again. Top 10 teams meet for title Friday one week after Joe’s (now No. 8) upset then No. 1 Canisius (No. 2 this week).

10. Williamsville North & Eden football. By stunningly shutting out South Park, North did Spartan Nation proud (not sure the same could be said of that Gronkowski reality show situation). Coach Chuck Tilley and tough-to-beat Raiders scored big win at Cheektowaga.

Honor roll: Orchard Park and Eden girls volleyball; Clarence, Williamsville South and Nardin girls soccer; Clarence, Williamsville East and St. Joe’s boys soccer; Amherst and Iroquois field hockey; East Aurora girls swimming; Lockport cross country.
