Los Angeles director Tariq Nasheed will be at the Market Arcade Film and Arts Centre for a screening of his documentary “Hidden Colors 2: The Triumph of Melanin” at 6 p.m. | Friday.
The film tackles topics ranging from the science of melanin, the global African presence, and the prison industrial complex and young black males to how thriving black communities have been undermined in America.
It also proposes solutions to the problems faced by African-Americans and features Michele Alexander, author of “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness,” and economist and author Claude Anderson.
The screening will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
