Burglar who failed in drug treatment is imprisoned

LOCKPORT – A Newfane burglar who failed in a court-supervised drug treatment program was sentenced to two to four years in state prison Wednesday by State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr.

Travis J. Watts, 29, of Hatter Road, will have to pay $380 in restitution after his release, Kloch ordered. Watts pleaded guilty last December to third-degree burglary for the Aug. 2, 2012, burglary of a neighbor’s home.

Defense attorney Scott R. Stopa said Watts has been addicted to drugs for 10 years, a problem that began during his treatment for a college football injury.

Watts has a previous federal conviction in South Carolina in 2009 for conspiracy to possession and distribute heroin.
