Buffalo man convicted of weapons count at trial

An 18-year-old Alexander Avenue man faces a prison term of up to 15 years after his conviction Monday on a charge of criminal possession of a weapon in the second-degree after three days of testimony before Erie County Judge Thomas P. Franczyk and a jury.

Trial Prosecutor Paul Parisi said Raekwon Barnes was on probation for an earlier firearms conviction when Buffalo Police Officers Michael Acquino and Mark Hamilton stopped him on Nevada Street late last Dec. 15 and found him carrying a loaded and operable .380 caliber Remington Arms semi-automatic pistol. He will be returned to court for sentencing Nov. 26.
