Elizabeth E. Smith, taught math in high school and college

Sept. 14, 1925 – Oct. 26, 2013

Elizabeth Ellen “Betty” Smith, of Williamsville, a retired high school and college math teacher, died Saturday in ElderWood Health Care at Wedgewood, Amherst.

She was 88.

Born in Buffalo, the former Elizabeth Healy was a graduate of St. Mary’s Seminary and Marygrove College in Detroit. She taught math at Alden High School and Erie Community College North.

She enjoyed dancing, bridge, supper clubs, golf, bowling, knitting and crocheting.

Her husband of 50 years, F. Robert “Bob,” died in 2001.

Survivors include four daughters, Sharon, Teresa Batcher, Margaret Rohde and Julie Brodzik; two sons, Robert and James; and a sister, Patricia Jehle.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. Tuesday in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 200 St. Gregory Court at Maple Road, Amherst.
