Old First Ward wins funding for study of historic district

Buffalo’s Old First Ward Community Association has won an $8,000 grant that will help it secure a designation as a historic district.

State Sen. Timothy M. Kennedy, D-Buffalo, and Preservation Buffalo Niagara said the Preserve New York grant will fund one-third of the cost of a study of the neighborhood’s history and architecture, a requirement for communities seeking to be designated historic districts by the state Historic Preservation Office.

The association is trying to complete the study and submit a nomination for historic district status by the end of the year, according to Kennedy’s office.
