Joseph L. Leone, Army veteran, chemist for the FDA

Sept. 5, 1932 – Oct. 3, 2013

Joseph L. Leone, a chemist with the Food and Drug Administration, died Thursday in Roswell Park Cancer Institute. He was 81.

Mr. Leone served in the United States Army until 1961. After graduating from Purdue University, he became a supervisory chemist with the Food and Drug Administration. He retired from the FDA as a lab director in 1996. After retirement, the Lewiston resident worked in the tourism industry, selling tours of Niagara Falls to visitors from around the world.

Mr. Leone was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, the former Rosalie Catanzaro.

Survivors include three sons, Joseph, James and John Leone; and a daughter, Lisa Leone-Hassen.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at noon today in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph’s Church, 1413 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls. Mr. Leone will be buried with military honors.
