Carl Andersen, business owner, WWII veteran

LEWISTON – Carl Andersen, of Lewiston, a World War II Army veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge, died unexpectedly Sept. 21 in Buffalo General Medical Center. He was 90.

Born in Niagara Falls, Mr. Andersen served with the 253rd Combat Engineer Battalion and received battle stars for his service in the Battle of the Bulge and Battle of Europe, and was granted an honorable discharge in 1946.

After his return from the war, he went on to graduate from the University of Buffalo and worked at Hysen Supplies Inc., where he became a successful businessman – eventually becoming an owner of the company.

In 1982, he started Andersen Electric Supply in Niagara Falls, a business that continues operating today.

Survivors include his wife, the former Norma Palmer; two daughters, Linda McClure and Deborah Pauline; and a brother, James.

A service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday in Rhoney Funeral Home, 901 Cayuga St., Lewiston.
