Canada’s best coming to Canisius

The Canadian Lacrosse Association has selected 51 players who will compete for a spot on the Canadian national men’s field lacrosse team. That squad will take part in the world championships in July, 2014, in Denver.

The tryout camp will be staged at Canisius College from Oct. 11 to 14. Randy Mearns, the Canisius head coach and current radio commentator for the Buffalo Bandits, will oversee the camp.

Several players on the Buffalo Bandits roster have been invited, including David Brock, Derek Hopcroft, Steve Priolo, Dhane Smith, Billy Dee Smith and Shawn Williams. Other familiar names from the National Lacrosse League who will attend are Garrett Billings, Kevin Crowley, John Grant Jr., Adam Jones (Canisius), Mark Matthews, Brodie Merrill, and Matt Vinc (Canisius).

Scrimmages will be staged against college teams; the dates and times are to be announced.
