JOHNSON, Kristine Jenny (Folstad)

JOHNSON - Kristine Jenny
(Folstad)
Lost her two-year heroic battle with lymphoma on September 23, 2013.
Her determination and will to overcome almost every obstacle made her Viking ancestors and family proud. Kris was born on July 27, 1942 and grew up in Springfield, MA with her beloved brother, Sigurd. She followed him and her future husband, Carl W. Johnson, to Springfield Technical High School, where she bested both of them in every endeavor. As many women of her generation, she entered nursing school, Peter Bent Brigham, of Boston. She soon decided to postpone her education to marry the boy down the street, Carl, August 5, 1961. Kris elected to be a stay-at-home mom handling three boys: Eric, Ward and Keith, the family finances and a myriad of family crises with the greatest skill and understanding. The boys' successes in life are a testament to her teachings and devotion to them. If you look carefully, you can also see her handprint on her grandchildren Heather and Joshua. When it came time to educate her three boys, Kris returned to school and obtained her degree to become a Registered Nurse, which she practiced in order to help with the family finances. Kris accepted every nursing challenge that came her way including developing quality assurance policies for hospitals, teaching new techs, and finally, becoming Vice President of Kensington Business School of Buffalo, NY. Kris elected to start a new adventure when her husband was transferred to Maryland. Kris loved living in New York and was upset in having to let go of her roots in Hamburg, NY, until she discovered the land of pleasant living in Severna Park, MD. She began her new life as a part time nurse, full time gardener, full time bridge player and a serious bargain hunter. Upon her husband's retirement, they both became frequent travelers. Cruises, elder hostels and train trips were on the menu. Her favorite mode of travel was her 24-foot RV known as "Stubby." In this, she toured the USA and took in all the wondrous sights available. Her longest road trip was nine weeks and she loved every minute of it. Kris had turned her attention to the county's senior centers, taking courses in Spanish, computers and photography. Her most recent passion has been computers. She was secretary of the Chesapeake PC Users and a dedicated member of the Computer Refurbishing Group. She began not even knowing how to turn on a computer to being the specialist in rebuilding laptops. This was typical of everything she undertook as a housewife, nurse, gardener, photographer, tourist, computer guru and, most of all, a wife. Kris, we will all miss you and your love of life. There will be a Memorial Visitation on Thursday, October 17 from 6-8 PM and Friday, October 18 from 2-4 pm at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy., Severna Park, MD 21146. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 19 at 11 AM in Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Rd,, Severna Park, MD 21146, with a reception to follow at the Church. Interment will be private.
