HANUSIN - John Age 94, of Bergholz, on September 24, 2013, at the Schoellkopf Health Center, Niagara Falls, NY. Born in Banske, Czechoslovakia on May 26, 1919; son of the late Michael and Mary (Matte) Hanusin. John came to the U.S. in 1937 and worked in the coal mines of Pennsylvania. He moved to Niagara County in 1941 and was employed at Dupont in Niagara Falls and the Carborundum Company- Abrasives Division in Wheatfield, until his retirement in 1984. John is a U.S. Army veteran and recipient of a European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, with one bronze battle star. Member of St. Vincent dePaul Parish at the Prince of Peace site, Carborundum 100 Club, and American Legion- Post 1451. Hobbies and interests included wine making, gardening, folk art, deer, turkey and pheasant hunting, fan of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres, made sausage, and was a great cook. John cherished the time he spent with his family. Predeceased by his wife, Mary (Tegda) Hanusin; a son, Timothy Hanusin; three brothers, George, Michael and Joseph Hanusin; and a sister, Anna Zaharlick. Survivors include eight children, Mary (Anthony) Marcinkowski, John R. Hanusin, James Hanusin, Margaret Christine Hanusin, Carol (James) Schwartz, Cathy (James) Williams, Joseph (Grace) Hanusin and Michael Hanusin; eight grandchildren, Shawna, Trisha, Jimmy, Carlene, Kassandra, Carla, Patrick and Christopher; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Kulick and Irene Winsock. Visitation at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME (731-3234), 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield, on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Services on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 AM in the funeral home, followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Vincent dePaul Parish- Prince of Peace site, 1055 N. Military Road, Niagara Falls. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Niagara Hospice, American Legion- Post 1451, or St. Vincent dePaul Parish- Prince of Peace site.
