STONE, Dorothy Gertrude (Keefe)

STONE - Dorothy Gertrude (nee Keefe)
Age 100, of Sarasota, FL (formerly of Buffalo, NY) went home to her heavenly Father on September 19, 2013. Born February 4, 1913 in Boston, MA to the late Francis Joseph Keefe and Mary Frances (nee Roberts) Keefe. She was the second of eight children and is survived by her brother Leo G. Keefe of Middletown, RI. She graduated Boston State Teacher's College, 1934 and was an art teacher. She married the late Solon Jones Stone of Buffalo in 1937. Solon was a senior partner of Phillips Lytle LLP. They lived in Buffalo, where they raised their family, for 57 years and are survived by their two children, Nancy Marie (John) Sweeney of Sarasota, FL and James Francis (Susan) Stone of South Kingston, RI. Dorothy is also survived by her ten grandchildren, John M. (Beverly) Sweeney, James F. (Cynthia) Sweeney, Ann M. Sweeney (Lynn) Barker, Joseph S. (Monica) Sweeney and Robert K. Sweeney, all of Sarasota, FL, Kathleen M. Sweeney (Marshall Bailey) of Seven Oaks, Kent, UK, Margaret M. Sweeney of NY, NY, James F. Stone of Newport, RI, Shelagh M. Stone of Wakefield, RI and Susannah R. Stone (Todd) Blair of Wakefield, RI; and seventeen great-grandchildren. She had been an active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Buffalo, where she was a past president of the Rosary Society. She was an avid volunteer, serving the St. Francis Guild, Roswell Park Memorial Hospital, St. Mary's School for the Deaf and St. Mary's Seminary. Dorothy loved to travel, entertain, play bridge, sew and do needlework. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Saturday, September 28, 2013 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 5394 Midnight Pass Rd, Sarasota, FL.
