Buffalo’s outpost of the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que smoked pork empire won’t open until 2014, according to Dinosaur CEO John Stage.

The planned 180-seat restaurant, under construction at 301 Franklin St., was previously expected to start serving customers in October. Now the company is targeting the third week in January, Stage said.

• Larkin Square is extending its Food Truck Tuesdays, welcoming popular Rochester food trucks back to the unparalleled collection of street food options the event represents. The regular contingent of Buffalo trucks has been joined by Brick N Motor, Hello Arepa, The Meatball Truck, and new this week, Macarollin. The event, at 5 p.m. Tuesdays at 745 Seneca St., will continue through at least Tuesday, said Larkin’s Leslie Zemsky. Past Tuesdays have seen about 20 food trucks and carts at the event, she added.

• Merge, 439 Delaware Ave., one of Buffalo’s standouts in organic vegetarian cuisine, is helping raise money for an organic farming group Friday. For info: 842-0600,

That night, 15 percent of the restaurant’s revenue will be donated to the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York. It’s part of the organization’s Locavore Challenge, a monthlong series of events designed to “inspire awareness and action in eating locally and organically through events and activities held around the state and online.” Learn more at

• Essex Street Pub, 530 Rhode Island St., will start serving a dinner menu of Bavarian classics, plus the former dive bar’s extensive burger and smoker-centric tavern menu, owner James “Macky” Moberly said.

Plates on the Bavarian menu are $12, and they’re scheduled to run starting Friday through Oct. 11. They include jagerschnitzel, breaded pork cutlets fried to order, with a rich mushroom gravy; Bavarian goulash, a German beef, onion and red wine stew; smoked Spar’s German bratwursts, from Spar’s European Sausage.

Plates include warm German potato salad, cold cucumber salad, sauerkraut and bread.
