The Western New York Safety Conference, a nonprofit that promotes workplace safety, has elected new officers to its board of directors for 2013-14. They are: president, Gerry Bogacz, director of human resources and safety at Tonawanda Coke; vice president, Sharon Hilts, consultant with Insyte Consulting; executive secretary, Paula Anderson, vice president of business development for North America at Polyair Packaging; recording secretary, John Michalovic, retired safety officer at Calspan; and treasurer, Brian Kelly, environmental, health and safety consultant with Occupational Safety and Health Associates. The WNY Safety Conference will be held March 12 and 13 at the Seneca Niagara Casino, with OSHA compliance classes offered March 10 and 11. For details, visit


Lynne Amrheim, a cashier at the Tops in Warsaw, is one of three cashiers who will represent the company at the New York State “Best Bagging Competition,” sponsored by the National Grocers Association. Carolyn Hueber, of the Tops in Greece, and Kristen Page, of the Tops in Sayre, Pa., will also represent the company at the state competition in October. The contestants were judged in two rounds on their speed, weight of bags, how well the bags were packed, and how many bags they used.


Damon Morey partners Kathleen M. Reilly and Patrick B. Curran recently spoke at DRI’s Nursing Home/ALF Litigation Seminar at the Westin Kierland in Scottsdale, Ariz. Reilly spoke during a panel discussion titled, “Steering the Top 10 Drivers Toward Better Claim Outcomes.” Curran spoke at the session titled, “Alternative Dispute Resolution in the Digital Age.“

Company Connections

The Buffalo/Niagara Postal Customer Council, the local direct mail and package shipping industry’s professional business group, received a Gold Award as a “Premier PCC” and the Platinum Award for achieving gold Premier level for five consecutive years in an annual competition with more than 200 councils nationwide representing 100,000 members. In local awards, the following individuals and businesses were honored: Partnership Award, the Zenger Group and CVRC-Community Vocational Rehabilitation Center of Niagara Falls; Individual Impact Awards, Steve Rost,, and Linda Bankowski, Univera; Postal Star Awards, April Callens and Janine Egloff, U.S. Postal Service.


Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Buffalo is participating in the Sharpen Your Financial Focus program. The nationwide initiative, launched by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling in partnership with major financial service companies, was developed to allow consumers to take the first step toward achieving their financial goals. CCCS Buffalo, a member of the NFCC, is providing local residents with financial reviews, financial self-assessment tools and educational workshops as a part of the initiative.
