East Aurora Chamber of Commerce beginning a new tradition

In an effort to honor people who helped give East Aurora its character, the Chamber of Commerce has started a Hall of Fame with a new tradition of annual inductees.

This year, they are the founders of Fisher-Price toy and the Roycroft Arts and Crafts Movement: Irving Price and Helen Schelle who helped supply the capital so Herman Fisher could start the toy company in 1930 and Elbert Hubbard, who started the artisan community at the turn of the last century.

“These people had a vision that is still lasting,” said Gary Grote, executive director of the Chamber. Plaques that will be eventually on view at the Chamber’s Main Street offices will be on display Thursday at the annual business awards dinner at the Roycroft Inn. Tickets are $35.
