# How would you fare in Buffalo's Middle School Math League competition? Test questions and answers.

Can you do as well as the Buffalo City Schools students who participated in the 2013 Middle School Math League competition? Following is one question from each of the three math meet packets, as well as a tie breaker question. The answers are at the bottom.

Math Meet 1, Question 2:

Q: A square has an area of 144. Rounded to the nearest whole number, find the area of the largest circle that will fit inside the square.

a) 38 b) 75 c) 113 d) 452

Math Meet 2, Question 6:

Q: In a tug of war, four boys can tug as hard as five girls. And two girls and one boy can tug as hard as one dog. The dog and three girls tug against four boys. Which side will win the last tug of war?

Math Meet 3, Question 7:

Q: The equations 2x + 7 = 3 and bx - 10 = -2 have the same solution x. What is the value of b?

Tie Breaker Question:

Q: A pole is one third in the mud, one half in the water, and three feet out of the water. What is the length of the pole?
