Falls man pleads guilty in New Year’s Day gun case

LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls man, charged with having a firearm during a car chase with Falls police on the afternoon of Jan. 1, pleaded guilty Friday.

Jheryl B. Carter, 24, of 12th Street, is to be sentenced by State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. Nov. 14 for fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Carter was arrested after a chase of several blocks when the car stopped and Carter and another man got out before the car sped off again. Once the police were able to check the car, after all the other occupants had fled, they found a sawed-off shotgun in the auto.
