Jury selection begins in murder trial

MAYVILLE – Jury selection began Thursday in the second-degree murder trial of Anthony R. Taglianetti II in State Supreme Court. Several potential jurors were questioned, but none was seated. Questioning is expected to continue today.

Public Defender Nathanial Barone called the jury selection process “a slow go.”

Taglianetti, 42, is on trial in the death of Keith Reed, former superintendent of Clymer Schools in southern Chautauqua County.

Barone said each potential juror has been meeting with Justice John Ward and members of the two legal teams for private questioning. “Several people have been dismissed,” he said.

“The private, individual questioning is due to the sensitive nature of the case,” said Barone.

“It is pretty obviously that a lot of people have formed opinions about this case,” said Barone.

The prosecutor, District Attorney David Foley, declined to comment on Thursday’s events.
