Tonawanda police chief Strassburg to be sworn in today

The City of Tonawanda’s new police chief, William L. Strassburg, will be sworn in at 7 p.m. today during a ceremony at the Niawanda Park pavilion on Niagara Street.

A 23-year veteran of the Tonawanda Police Department, Strassburg was appointed by Mayor Ronald J. Pilozzi and approved Tuesday by the Common Council.

He has served as captain in the department since June 2010 and as interim chief since the retirement in June of former Chief John F. Ivancic.

A 1985 graduate of Tonawanda High School and a lifelong city resident, Strassburg joined the force in 1990 and was promoted to detective in February 2001 and lieutenant in June 2001.
