It looks like Channel 4 is set to hire a new female anchor from Youngstown, Ohio, though it is unclear where she will be anchoring.
Channel 4 hasn't announced the hiring of Teresa Weakley, who is the main female anchor at WKBN-TV in Youngstown.
But the Youngstown station has announced on its website that it is looking for someone to replace its departing female co-anchor. According to a source there, Weakley is leaving the LIN Media station in Ohio for the LIN station here, which is Channel 4.
Weakley, who has been at WKBN for three years after arriving from a Nashville station, recently has been spotted inside the Channel 4 newsroom amid speculation that she has been hired or it about to be hired by the LIN affiliate. According to a source, Weakley has had tryouts alongside both morning co-anchor Jordan Williams and evening anchor Don Postles, who has done the 10 p.m. news since Diana Fairbanks moved to the mornings.
Channel 4 never replaced Fairbanks when she moved to the mornings from the 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts. Postles and Jacquie Walker filled those time slots.
There has been internal speculation that Weakley might replace Fairbanks in the mornings alongside co-anchor Williams and that Fairbanks may go back to her old anchor slots. The other alternative would be to have Weakley take Fairbanks' old anchor slots.
You would think that Weakley wouldn't give up three main anchor slots in Youngstown even if it is a smaller market to just anchor "Winging It!," the Channel 4 morning program with paid segments.
The new Channel 4 morning team of Fairbanks and Williams did reasonably well during the May sweeps in demographics. The July ratings, which are less important, weren't as kind as Channel 2's "Daybreak" with Melissa Holmes and John Beard expanded its morning household lead from a year ago. The demographics have yet to arrive.
