Where We Live: Orchard Park

The number of Orchard Park Central School District students earning advanced diplomas increased to 68 percent this year, according to Dennis Fitscher, assistant superintendent for curriculum.

Fitscher told the School Board last week that the district is making progress on a number of goals included in the Comprehensive District Educational Plan (CDEP) adopted in February 2012.

The plan calls for increasing the number of students earning advanced diplomas by 10 percent, and the district has increased from 62 percent to 68 percent of those graduating in June. The plan also calls for increasing the number of students participating in Advanced Placement, honors and accelerated courses by 10 percent. He said there has been a growth of 8 percent at the high school, and 35 percent at the middle school.

The plan covers the school years from fall 2012 through 2015.
