BATAVIA – The expansion project at Batavia Downs will open Sept. 27, nearly a month later than originally projected, officials announced.
“Pushing back our opening date ensures that all facets of our new gaming facility will be finished and ready to accept customers,” said Michael D. Kane, president and chief executive officer.
Batavia Downs will be open Aug. 28 and 29, days when the casino was to be closed for a move to its new quarters. Promotions scheduled that weekend will be held as planned.
The $25 million project will move the video gambling operation from the second floor to a renovated first-floor area and expand it from 640 to 779 machines.
There also will be two new restaurants – a larger Tim Hortons cafe and bake shop and a Thurman Thomas sports bar – a new facade and a two-story entrance atrium.
