Cattaraugus, Livingston counties getting patrol boats

Cattaraugus and Livingston counties will be receiving Brunswick “Justice” patrol boats valued at $60,000 to $115,000 to assist in their marine law enforcement efforts through the U.S. Coast Guard Recreational Boating Safety Grant program.

The program is designed to assist in the safety operations of recreational boaters and the enforcement of the state’s navigation laws, according to Rose Harvey, commissioner of the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

Patrol boats also will be going to the City of Rye the sheriff’s departments of Schuyler, Rockland, Seneca, Madison, Wayne and Yates counties.

Harvey said her department’s state aid program for marine law enforcement, in operation since 1959, reimburses up to 50 percent of county-level marine patrol expenditures and this year is expected to pay 53 law enforcement agencies statewide a total of $2 million for their marine efforts last year.
