OLAF FUB SEZ: It was poet and playwright Emma Lazarus, born on this date in 1849, who wrote these words which appear on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty: “Give me your tired, your poor, / Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, / The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. / Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, / I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
I hear the breeze of summer
It whistles through the trees
It cools our sun-kissed skin
And tries its best to please.
The rose breathes perfume
Through the air
The honeybee at play
Flits around with butterflies
Enjoying life’s bouquet.
Children play on grassy knolls
Summer gifts are treasures
We’ll remember all our lives
As truly priceless pleasures.
