Henry J. “Hank” Bokman, a longtime Western New York auto dealer, died June 26 in his Freehold, N.J., home after a long illness. He was 85.
Born in Albion, Mr. Bokman graduated from Albion High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in 1950.
In 1963, Mr. Bokman started a small Dodge dealership in Medina with his brother, Joseph. He bought an Oldsmobile dealership on South Park Avenue in 1967, and a short time later, moved it to West Seneca. He sold that dealership in 1982.
In 1985, Mr. Bokman opened Bokman Chevrolet in Fredonia, which he operated until his retirement in 2005.
Mr. Bokman was a member of Rotary clubs in West Seneca and Fredonia.
A sports fan, he enjoyed golfing, boating and snow and water skiing.
Mr. Bokman left the Buffalo area in 2012.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas and Stephen; two daughters, Maureen MacNamara and Jean; two brothers, Michael and Butch; and two sisters, Veronica Cameron and Rita Lewis.
A memorial service will be held in Buffalo at a later date.
