Western New York Southtowns Scenic Byway has recognized Jack Bertsch with its Byway Champion Award.

Bertsch, the owner of Polymer Conversions, showed faith in the organization when it was still just a hope and a wish of a few community-minded people. He was one of the first from the private sector to step up, and that commitment continues.

The award has been given only once before, to Erie County Legislator John Mills, R-Orchard Park, in recognition of his contributions and guidance to the byway.

Cadet Eric Christopher Renn, the son of Randy and Lori Renn of Angola, has graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

A 2009 graduate of Lake Shore Central High School, Renn concentrated his studies at West Point in systems engineering. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army within the Army Aviation branch and will report to Fort Rucker, Ala. for his first assignment.

In Springville, Bob Johnson Motors helped raise $2,120 for Colden Elementary School with Chrysler’s Drive for the Kids program. The fundraising event was held in conjunction with the school’s Field Day. Participants earned a $10 contribution to the school by taking a brief test drive in a 2013 Town & Country minivan or other vehicle. At the conclusion of the program, the school with the highest number of test drives in each of five regions of the country will win an additional $5,000.
