MARASCO, Vandina

MARASCO - Vandina (nee Bianchi)
June 26, 2013, at age 93, peacefully passed in her sleep, with Joe, her husband of 65 years by her side. Born in Udine, Italy to Angelo and Carolina Bianchi on September 17, 1919, she immigrated to the United States with her parents at age four, proudly becoming a US Citizen in 1945. Raised in Buffalo, New York, she was a graduate of Bennett High School, with a diploma in Home Economics from Kensington High School. She worked as a seamstress at downtown Kleinhan's and contributed to the war effort at Curtiss Wright prior to her marriage. After raising her children, she was a telephone operator for Sears Department Store, retiring from that position. Together with her husband, she assisted in the building and renovation of seven of their homes in Getzville, Williamsville and later in the Angola area. In retirement, she wintered for many years in Lakeland Florida, where she was a member of her church and retirement park choral groups. She was an avid gardener, an accomplished knitter and took great pleasure in spending time with her life long friends and family. Those left behind to cherish her memory, kindness and astute sense of humor include her husband, Joseph P.; children, Joanne (Vincent) Purpura of Great Falls, MT, Mary Louise (Maj. John) Bounora of Rockland, MD and son Joseph (Marjorie) Marasco of Williamsville, NY; grandchildren, Michael (Geannine) and Jason (Lori) Purpura both of Great Falls, MT, and Spc. Andrew Bounora of Seattle, WA; four great-grandchildren; also survived by her sister-in-law, Joan (late Louis) Bianchi; brother-in-law John (Nancy) Marasco; special niece Paula Tiranno Janicki and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. In addition to her parents and her brother Louis she was predeceased by her beloved sister Louise (late John) Tiranno. A Mass of Christian Burial from Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 5480 Main St., Williamsville, NY will take place Friday, July 5, 2013 at 9:30 AM with a reception immediately following.
