Toronto-area company plans to build on site

WHEATFIELD – A Toronto-area company that manufactures parts for the defense, aerospace and heavy equipment industries is planning to build a plant in the Niagara County-owned Vantage International Pointe ► CQ ◄ industrial park off Lockport Road.

The county Industrial Development Agency this week approved the sale of six acres to Avion Technologies for $39,000. Avion plans to build a plant covering 10,000 to 25,000 square feet within three years.

Company president and founder Harjit S. Chana ► CQ ◄ said the company employs about 30 people at its 17,000-square-foot plant in Mississauga. “We plan to have about the same size in the Buffalo area,” Chana said.

He said the company needs a U.S. plant “to make it easier for us to accept U.S. customers and government contracts.”
