Sykes Enterprises says it will lay off 65 of 310 employees at its Amherst call center.
The Tampa, Fla.-based company filed a notice with the state Department of Labor saying the job cuts would occur Sept. 25. Its call center is located at 251 John James Audubon Parkway.
In its notice, Sykes cited “discontinuance of client account operations” as the reason for the layoffs.
“We’re always evaluating our business to adapt to meet client needs, market conditions, etc.,” said Andrea Thomas, a company spokeswoman.
Thomas said employment fluctuations were “not unusual” in Sykes’ industry, which involves providing outsourced call center services to clients. The affected employes will be invited to apply for other jobs at the Amherst call center, as well as elsewhere within the company, Thomas said.
Sykes, which is publicly traded, reported net income of about $28.4 million in 2012.
