Letter: Parents must make education a priority

Parents must make education a priority

Adam Zyglis’ June 20 editorial cartoon of two drinking fountains depicts an idea that the children aren’t succeeding because they have inferior tools to work with.

This reader – who, as a single parent, raised his son, made sure there was time each evening to spend helping with schoolwork and seeing that homework was completed, saw that the boy had enough sleep and a decent breakfast every day and was there for every parent-teacher meeting – thinks a better cartoon would be one of a child surrounded by everything needed while in school and standing surrounded by nothing when at home.

Better yet, how about a cartoon showing the child with an open book in hand looking up at the parent who was too busy with his own life to care?
