Arrest in Sanborn convenience store robbery

SANBORN – A Lockport man was charged with robbing the Sanborn Family Mart at knife point this morning.

Danny Merritt, 32, of Murphy Road was charged with first-degree robbery and was arraigned before Lewiston Town Court Judge Hugh Gee and remanded to Niagara County Jail on $10,000 bail.

Merritt allegedly entered the Sanborn Family Mart at 2939 Saunders Settlement Road at 2 a.m. and displayed a knife to the clerk then left with about $200 in cash.

Niagara County sheriff’s deputies located a vehicle on Lockport Road near Nash Road that matched the description of the getaway car, driven by Merritt, who matched the description of the suspect. Merritt told deputies he was coming from a friend’s house in Niagara Falls. Deputies found $80 in cash, but no weapon.

Merritt appeared to be sweaty and was shaking, according to deputies.

He was arrested after he was taken back to the Sanborn Family Mart and identified by the clerk.

The case was turned over to the Lewiston Police Department which also responded to the scene.
