75-year-old Carlton man dies of injuries from explosion

CARLTON – Authorities said a 75-year-old man has died of injuries suffered in an explosion last month at his home.

The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office said Wesley Baes died Monday afternoon in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, where he had been undergoing treatment for serious burns suffered in the May 17 explosion.

Deputies said the explosion occurred while Baes was using a torch to patch a hole in an empty 200-gallon gas tank at his home in the Town of Carlton, on Lake Ontario 30 miles west of Rochester.

Police said vapors in the tank ignited and caused an explosion.
