More than 8,000 expected to participate in fundraiser

More than 8,000 bicyclists will travel routes ranging from 3 to 100 miles to raise money for the fight against cancer this weekend in the annual Ride for Roswell.

It begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday with the Peloton, a ceremonial bicycle procession from Roswell Park Cancer Institute in downtown Buffalo to the University at Buffalo football stadium on the North Campus in Amherst.

An opening ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday in the stadium will feature an inspirational talk by former Major League pitcher Dave Dravecky, whose baseball career was cut short by cancer, and a performance by Grammy Award-winning country singer LeAnn Rimes.

Saturday will see riders setting out from the UB North Campus every half hour from 6:30 to 10 a.m. on routes of various lengths through northern Erie County. For information, visit
