The fourth annual National Garden Festival kicks off today and runs through Aug. 4. Visit for the schedule of local garden walks and tours, bus tours, weekday Open Gardens, speakers, workshops and more.


The Interior Design Association of Western New York will present its “Trims to Treasurers” sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Saturday at Life Transitions Center, 1140 Delaware Ave. Decorator fabrics, accessories, wallpaper, furniture and antiques will be sold at reduced prices. The eighth annual Lewiston GardenFest, a free event sponsored by the Lewiston Garden Club, features a garden walk and other garden-theme activities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The event includes open gardens in the village, daily speakers, master gardeners, soil testing, vendors and a potted container contest along Center Street. Pick up maps at the hospitality booths. Hamburg House and Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Hamburg United Methodist Church, 116 Union St., Hamburg. Martin Wachadlo, an architectural historian, will discuss homes on Garden Walk Buffalo. Business meeting and student scholarship presentation will follow. Amherst Garden Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, 6540 Main St, Amherst. A plant exchange will be followed by a field trip to Smug Creek Gardens, 8399 Zimmerman Road, Hamburg, and lunch at a local restaurant. Guests and newcomers welcome.


Members of Judges Council of 8th District of the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State will tour the hosta gardens at Murray Bros. Nursery, Orchard Park, on Thursday.
