Daniel J. Kenny, of the Town of Tonawanda, retired administrator of the Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clarence, died Monday in the Brothers of Mercy Center after a short illness. He was 74.
Born in the Bronx, he attended the Teachers College at Columbia University and New York University, earning master’s degrees in health education and social gerontology.
Before coming to the Buffalo area in 1980, he was a nursing home administrator in Philadelphia. After serving as the first lay administrator of St. Francis Nursing Home in Williamsville, he became administrator at the Brothers of Mercy Center in 1983. The Western New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging presented him its 1994 Meritorious Service Award for excellence in service to the elderly. He retired in 2000.
A former minister of the Secular Franciscan Order, he was an active member of St. Christopher’s Parish Council and a volunteer in the parish’s outreach program.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, the former Barbara Voghtsberger; a son, Daniel A.; a daughter, Mary Anne Konieczny; a brother, Tom; his twin sister, Kathleen Corr; and another sister, Mary Dunn.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. July 13 in St. Christopher Catholic Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Blvd., Town of Tonawanda.
